I’m totally preoccupied with model makers – you know, the awesome wizards who make the collectible figures we save up to buy. And I’m obsessed with all things tiny, especially when I’m trying to make them myself. Sooo I decided to get some Willow wax (a wax and clay medium similar to Casteline) and do a 1/6th scale head of Mila Jovovich (who I chose because there are just so many pictures of her out there… and well, she’s lovely).

Here she is so far. She looks a little weird all hairless and gray – but if you *squint* maybe it looks like her a little?

    It is hard to tell, but yes, it does look like her. It’s like we were talking about: she’s a weird one because when you really look at her face, it’s more masculine and hard than it seems at first. Like her nose, and her brow. But I can already tell you that it looks better than 75% of the stuff they end up selling on those collector sites.

    well thanks. Its funny, you never really realize how odd a person’s features are until you either draw or sculpt them- especially the sorts I’m drawn to who’s individual features are all strange, but all together make a pleasing whole.
    Man, I can’t wait to get some hair on her, I just can’t decide on a style: 5th Element or the first Resident Evil…

    Dude! This is great – I love the detail around the eyes. Are you going to do the complete figure?

    @Teresa- hey thanks!
    Working with this material is fun stuff. If you’ve ever used sculpey… its nothing like that. Its neat because its pretty hard at room temperature (so you can carve it) but the heat from your hands makes it softer so you can sculpt it like Sculpey – that’s the wax that’s in it. The hardness means all that work you put into details doesn’t get smushed away when you’re working on it, which is nice.
    A word of warning though: its not a permanent medium, you’ll have to make a mold from your sculpt and cast it in resin or something.

    Jack of all trades! Very nice…you also have some very nice prints…my question…are these individual prints that you have or are they ‘copies’. If they are copies how do you get them done?

    @Brine- thanks and hmmm, they’re prints… from my printer! I have an 8 color medium format printer with which I make archival prints.
