Tomorrow I’m heading out for the grayer pastures of Portland. Hurray!

For the next week or so I might be a bit slow responding to email and I’ve taken the shop down for a bit while I get settled. But feel free to contact me anyway and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can.

Sleeping on a completely reversed schedule. Working while everyone else is asleep and things are too quiet. Listening to the same playlist too many times. Probably unwise.

I finally refilled and transferred my old W&N half pans to a new home.

I found this tin at a mega art supply store- it was for organizing beads or something. It fits 36 pans almost perfectly. So now I have room to get my pretty Holbeins out of their tubes. yay!

I’ll have to get used to such a small palette but so far I love it. It’s going to look this clean for oh about 10 minutes so I thought I’d document the occasion.

I heart this.

Dear Photograph- take a picture of a picture from the past in the present.

This is one of the reasons I decided not to pursue making jewelry. It’s bad enough that it’s a given that anything you do is sure to be copied a bazillion times on Etsy, but more and more mass retailers do it all the time now too.

Sucks.

i make shiny things : Not cool Urban Outfitters, not cool.

update - Well hell, I guess she is on Etsy, ffs:  Regretsy | Urban Outrage

Yes please.

I need more details about what file types I can put on it and how well it handles annotations but if it’s this nice in person I think I might get one. B&N is slightly more slimy than Amazon but at least it uses ePub and not Kindle format. The touchscreen is the thing though. I just can’t deal with the Kindle’s micro keyboard or the annoying navigation- it feels a bit like trying to do things on a 2001 Nokia.

Check out the link for some dimly lit but still rad looking video of it in action.

That Isn’t Art

People post ridiculous “art” to Tumblr. These pieces frequently make it into Popular. I reblog them here and call them out for being stupid.

Totally.

While searching for some hair ideas for a painting I got sidetracked by Jesse Spencer, and the greater question of why are Australian men so freaking pretty? In researching this important topic I discovered that Jesse Spencer and James McAvoy were roommates when they were younger. Jesus.

Working on a new series of personal pieces I’m pretty psyched about. It’s not far enough along to show much but here’s a preview.

Adidas Vs project

Adidas Originals | Break the Style, Run the Street : Women’s Lookbook SS11

Adidas and the Sid Lee / Jimmy Lee agency recently asked me to do watercolor portraits of style bloggers and stylists for their City vs City campaign. I illustrated 11 stylists, spot illustrations for their bios, and watercolor elements for the site.

I love that I got to do the whole thing in watercolor. I haven’t done this much in a while and I’ve missed it (pencil work is fun but on a big project it means insomnia and wicked hand cramps).

It was a great project to work on; the people at Sid Lee/Jimmy Lee were terrific. You can check it out in my portfolio and on the Adidas site.
